Training Schedule

Club training is directed and overseen by Kyle Bennett, the Club Coach.

Club training throughout Michaelmas and Hilary terms will be as follows:

Monday:
5 pm Circuits (Iffley Road, Sports Hall).

Tuesday:
1 pm Speed session (Exeter-Hertford playing fields).
This session will be either short sharp speed work or longer repetitions, designed to increase speed endurance and VO2 max.
6 pm session (Iffley Road Track).
The same as the lunchtime session for those who can’t make it.  Try to make the lunchtime session if possible; daylight and grass are better for training through the winter.

Wednesday:
5 pm Club run (meet at the Radcliffe Camera).
This will be an easy run, lasting between 30 and 45 minutes.

Thursday
1 pm Session (meet in University Parks).
This session changes depending on whether any racing is planned for Saturday, but usually it forms a tempo session or longer reps run at threshold pace.
6 pm session (Iffley Road Track).
The same as the lunchtime session for those who can’t make it.  Try to make the lunchtime session if possible; daylight and trails are better for training through the winter.

Friday:
Well earned rest!

Saturday:
10 am Hill session (South Parks).

Sunday:
10 am Long run (meet at the Radcliffe Camera). (Including Social Running group.)
This run is usually 60-90 min depending on ability. We will try to ensure there is always a social group doing a run of 60 min and two groups going out for 80-90min at different paces..

During Trinity Term the majority of athletes in the club switch their focus to track racing, anything from 400m to 10k. The weekly training schedule is shaped the same, but the evening session on Tuesday and Thursday on the track becomes the main session and lunchtime sessions cease.

You are welcome to come and try out any of these sessions.  We do not expect people to come to everything; just try out what you fancy and do what you are comfortable with!
